SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4 Sports) – The Utah women’s volleyball team rallied from being down two sets to none against Marquette, only to lose the fifth and deciding set 15-12 to end their incredible turnaround season.
Aubrey Hamilton led the way for the Golden Eagles with 20 kills, as Marquette moves on to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament. Hamilton had the game-winning kill in the fifth set for Marquette.
“I couldn’t be more proud of my team for the comeback,” said Utah head coach Beth Launiere. “This team has fought all season long. It’s what they do. It’s why we won 25 matches because they they love each other. They play for each other, and they just never quit. And that was certainly the situation tonight.”
Lauren Jardine had 17 kills to lead Utah, which dropped the first two sets 25-23 and 25-22. But the Utes stormed back to win the fourth set 25-18 and the fourth set 26-24.
Kamry Bailey and Allie Olsen each had nine kills for the Utes. Emrie Satuala led the defensive effort with 11 blocks, while Jardine added eight blocks.
“I think it shows our belief in each other,” Olsen said about Utah’s comeback effort. “It was our fight that we had to not let this season end.”
Bailey had 14 digs, while Claranne Fechter pitched in with 13.

“I liked the ability to prove people wrong,” Jardine said. “I think a lot of people, especially with our season last year, didn’t expect us to do very well. So when we come into a new conference and play new teams, I feel like it was hit or miss of like whether or not people thought that we would play well.”
