BFAR provides boat repair materials to Aurora fisherfolk

Baler, Aurora — The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Region 3 (BFAR3) recently provided boat repair materials to 250 fisherfolk in the province.

The distribution, conducted on Friday, 20 December, was led by BFAR3 Regional Director Wilfredo M. Cruz, who said the grants are part of the bureau’s support for local fisherfolk whose boats were damaged by Typhoon Pepito.

Cruz added that the 250 fisherfolk came from the towns of Dipaculao and Dinalungan in Aurora, emphasizing BFAR3’s commitment to assisting the recovery efforts of the community.

A total of 1,000 sets of boat repair materials—plywood, copper nails, epoxy, and paint—were distributed to repair boats vital to the community’s daily operations.

The fisherfolk from both towns expressed gratitude for the timely intervention, with many noting that their boats are crucial to their livelihoods. The materials provided by BFAR will help them restore their vessels and resume their daily activities.

The distribution is part of a broader initiative by BFAR to assist fishing communities in Central Luzon that suffered damages from Typhoon Pepito, which hit the region earlier this year.

This initiative highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to provide relief to the fisheries sector and strengthen local communities’ resilience to climate-related disasters.
