Honeywell Secures Automation Contract for Exide’s Bengaluru Gigafactory
Honeywell has successfully secured a significant contract with Exide Energy Solutions Limited (EESL), a subsidiary of India’s largest battery manufacturer, Exide Industries. This agreement will see Honeywell implement its advanced automation solutions at Exide’s upcoming 80-acre lithium-ion gigafactory in Bengaluru. The factory, set to become the city’s first multi-gigawatt-hour lithium-ion cell manufacturing plant, will play a crucial role in India’s growing electric vehicle (EV) market.
Honeywell’s Role in Factory Automation
As part of the project, Honeywell will deploy its Enterprise Buildings Integrator (EBI) platform to streamline and centralize control and monitoring across the entire building management system (BMS) within the gigafactory. This integration will not only enhance operational efficiency but also optimize incident response times and contribute to energy savings. This approach will improve both safety and production efficiency across the facility, ensuring a seamless, high-quality output for the EV battery manufacturing process.
Gigafactory to Boost India’s EV Production
Scheduled for completion in 2025, the gigafactory will produce cutting-edge lithium-ion batteries, a crucial component in meeting the growing global demand for electric vehicles. This project is a strategic move by Exide to support the Indian government’s ambition to become a major player in the electric mobility sector. Atul Pai, Vice President and General Manager of Building Automation at Honeywell India, highlighted that the company’s automation solutions are pivotal in ensuring the efficient production of batteries, aligning with sustainable energy goals and promoting India’s self-reliance in critical industries like electric mobility.
